I’ve been told that students who must defend their exam answers are given a few days notice to prepare. Since there are only two days left until results are due, I’m guessing that one of two situations have occured:
- I failed to answer any of the questions adequately, and have therefore failed the comprehensive exam.
- I passed the exam, and can therefore start applying for a professional librarian position.

Okay, it sounds like it is time for another “pep talk.” But, may I point out that there is a whole other option that you failed to delineate:
You may have passed one or more of the questions and may only have to retest a portion of the exam.
I know, still a depressing thought. So, let’s put all of these negative thoughts outside our consciousness and concentrate on your option #2.
And, if you need help with your resume, just let me know.
By way of explanation of my previous post, I assumed that the “defense” of any wrong answers would come after the two-week notification of success or failure. Sorry for not really reading your post carefully enough — you had considered that option, but dismissed it because of the arbitrary two-week deadline for the posting of the result.
Mea culpa. My humblest apologies. But the pep talk still stands.

Have been having similar thoughts, Linda, and similar conclusions. Swear I’ve never been so nervous about test results in my life!
Of course, there’s always library tech positions. Noticed the other day that the Air Force is hiring them and decided I wouldn’t care what my job was, if I were living in Germany or England. ;-)
Tom,
I attempted to address your offer for a pep talk earlier this morning, but got called away after composing only a partial response, i.e., “Thanks for the offer to counsel, but it’s truly not necessary. I’m leaning towards the positive.”
Since the results have now come back, it seems silly to finish the original message.
I might, however, take you up on the offer to look over my resume prior to spamming everyone with it ;-)
Kirsten,
Europe would love you! No doubt they would appreciate immensely the Democracy Superhero that you have become ;-)
