Read all the underlines and annotations from the thousand or so pages of articles I saved from Dr. Cecelia Brown’s 5053 class. (Took most of the day - yes, my eyes felt like they were full of sand at day’s end)
Details that sparked interest:
- The challenges faced by visually impaired university students as they attempt to acquire a college degree. Reading the article with Zipf in mind, I’d place the word determination at or near the top of the lexical hierarchy. (definitely reduced my desire to whine)
- The challenges faced by wheelchair-bound teens as they attempt to obtain access to schools and libraries
- My review of Granovetter’s The Strength of Weak Ties and Chatman’s A Theory of Life in the Round; it seems both of these are highly applicable to the Digital Divide.
- The distinction between librarianship (i.e., science of the organization, preservation, and use of human graphic records) and information science (i.e., science of the creation, use, and communication of information)
Went over flash cards once again (most were made while reviewing 5033); tossed out about 40% (I really was quite thorough in their creation. time waster? hope not!)
Fired up laptop and wrote each of the Bill of Rights ten times; not enough day left to do the same with each of the Code of Ethics.
[To do before Friday: drive to campus and determine location of testing lab.]
