A month or so ago (perhaps thinking I wouldn’t have enough to do this coming spring) I applied to present the library blog I launched as a class project last semester at the Oklahoma Library Association conference in April. I am happy (?) to announce that I just received word the application has been accepted and I will be presenting in Tulsa on April 22.
This is the same blog I presented back in November at the OK-ACRL conference; however, this presentation will be different in the following ways:
· The blog is now a collaborative work and I will be presenting with two of my fellow authors, Jamie Holmes and Pamela Louderback.
· November’s presentation focused primarily on how a class project became a library communication and marketing tool. April’s presentation will reveal how NSUBA Library Blog inspired the creation of three additional library blogs – each of which are used to enhance communication among a group of very busy coworkers.
· There will be no Internet access - we’re thinking screen shots on a PowerPoint.

Yay for you!
Stinks about the no internet access, though. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an OLA conference where all the presenters could use the internet as needed?
Good to see you in class yesterday.
Thanks, Kirsten!
I think it would be very nice indeed if information specialists had access to all the equipment they often use on a daily basis in order to present its full potential. However, considering that librarianship is a service industry supported primarily by public funds, it’s not surprising that our access is limited (which makes the feats we accomplish all that more amazing, if you ask me ;-)
It was good to hear you in class yesterday (was it only yesterday?). Maybe IT can pan the camera out a bit next week so I can see you, too ;-)
How many of you are there in Norman, btw?
If the OLA membership made a bigger stink of it — there is no reason why we couldn’t secure a location with free wifi.
It’s just asking for a little more bling for our bucks.
(and mazel tov too) ;-)
Wifi would indeed be wonderful - not to mention make it easier to present the many communication and information benefits allowed by blogs.
Well, I’ll definitely be there in the audience to see all these great new developments from the NSU-BA team! (And see why your blog is still useful even *after* that particular class is over?)
Ummm…*counts in head*…I think there were thirteen of us, with two more on the syllabus but not in attendance.
BTW, have you seen this announcement for a competitive intelligence job? Someone in your class will probably bring it up, but just in case….
Doc Martens,
With such great guidance at its launching, how could it not continue to be useful long after class is over ;-)
I look forward to seeing you there.
Kirsten,
Very interesting want ad. I’m glad to see documented evidence encouraging those with MLS - or MLIS - degrees to look beyond the library’s walls. (A new form of outreach?)
Thanks for the head count. Though I must say I do hope for a head “shot” soon ;-)
